The Cure for Diabetes

Adult onset diabetes is easily cured by a simple and holistic approach.  Pancreatic beta cells produce insulin and do not regenerate.  The allopathic method involves 3 classes of drugs, the last one being insulin. Once the patient is on insulin, chances are he will never get off of it.

The first class of drugs open up the body cell receptors to blood glucose. The next class of drugs stimulate the pancreatic beta cells. These drugs speed up the time for the insulin producing cells to cease functioning.  Lastly, insulin must be given for the remainder of life–this life being of very poor quality.  Blindness, lost feet, toes, or fingers, and dialysis are all very common outcomes in advanced diabetes.

How to avoid this is to take a very different approach than the one above. GET OFF the drugs as fast as you can.  Eat natural foods high in complex carbohydrates and low in fat and protein.  Mainstream medicine has the diabetic eating a high fat and high protein diet.  This is completely counter-intuitive.  A diabetic is already at much higher risk for a cardiac event than a non diabetic.  A diabetic’s kidneys have a much shorter lifespan due to the high quantity of blood glucose.  It is well known that a high protein diet is very hard on the kidneys.  So together, a high fat and high protein diet complicates diabetes and puts the patient at even more risk for a cardiac event and kidney disease.

Unfortunately, there is good dietary compliance because most people enjoy the taste of meat and fat which becomes a comfort to them since the simple carbohydrates are severely limited.  But what about the complex carbohydrates?  Meaning, what about plants? Wouldn’t it seem logical to put a diabetic on a high complex carbohydrate, low protein, and low fat diet? Complex carbohydrates are blood sugar stabilizers.  They are the preferred nutrients for all the organs.

What about food addictions? Well, be addicted..die and suffer. Or use some will power and free yourself from the bondage of processed foods. Food’s purpose is for fuel, and secondarily for enjoyment.  Once a person learns about all the ways to prepare natural foods of the earth, the enjoyment will be far superior to that of processed foods; because there is no price to pay for that temporary high.

Arsenic In Fruit Juices

Arsenic is a poison that can contaminate water. The government puts limits on how much can be in bottled and municipal water, but has no limits for juice.

A study was just released by Consumer Reports that found levels of arsenic in fruit juices that exceeded the federal government’s guidelines for bottled and city water. The majority of the arsenic detected was the inorganic form — a known carcinogen linked to skin, bladder, and lung cancer. And in 12 of the juices tested, at least one sample contained lead levels that exceeded standards for bottled water.

The scary part of this is that kids drink lots of juice and parents are happy about that because it’s supposedly better than soda. No wonder cancer is the number one cause of death among children! What they drink alone is killing them.

If I was a mother, I would immediately stop all consumption of juice. The FDA apparently hasn’t been that concerned about it even though they themselves found arsenic at higher levels than what Consumer Reports found. The Juice Products Association says they will do whatever the FDA tells them to do. They should be immediately changing their processes now.  The findings are out in the open. But of course there are profitable relationships between the beverage associations and the FDA.

My message to beverage consumers, is don’t count on a change anytime soon.

Convert the children from juice to tea, but not black tea. Black tea is very acidic.  Herbal tea is alkaline, has no sugar, and actually PREVENTS cancer. That’s what a child needs, versus a sugary drink with poisons. There are many kinds of herbal teas to choose from that are full of flavor.  A known favorite among children since the early 1980′s is called Fortune Delight. It goes down easy so that children end up drinking a lot of it. It contains healing properties and aids digestion..which today’s kids need. And it comes in lemon, raspberry, and peach.  Yummy and good for the tummy!

Feeling Blue? Do Yoga!

Since the 1970’s, meditation and other stress reduction techniques have been studied as possible treatments for depression and anxiety. One such practice, yoga, has received less attention in the medical literature but is getting to be a lot more popular in recent decades.

In a German study published in 2005, women who described themselves as “emotionally distressed” took two 90-minute yoga classes per week for three months. Women in a control group maintained their normal activities and did not begin an exercise or stress-reduction program during the study period. All participants had experienced distress for at least half of the previous 90 days. They were also one standard deviation above the population norm in scores for perceived stress, anxiety, and depression.

At the end of the three months, women in the yoga group reported improvements in perceived stress, depression, anxiety, energy, fatigue, and well-being. Depression scores improved by 50%, anxiety scores by 30%, and overall well-being scores by 65%. Initial complaints of headaches, back pain, and poor sleep also resolved much more often than in the control group.

According to Stephen Cope, a psychotherapist and author of Yoga and the Quest for the True Self, hatha yoga postures improve mood by moving energy through places in the body where feelings of grief or anger are stored. Yoga students may also benefit from their relationship with the yoga instructor, by providing a safe place for expressing and resolving emotional issues.

Antidepressants and other psychotropic medications have the side effect of dulling the mind, while offering no other benefits to the patient’s overall well-being.  Yoga’s side effects include weight loss, slowed aging, lower blood pressure and reduction in chronic pain.

Yoga is a creative exercise program and can be social which is different from most other exercise programs. Yoga unites the masculine and feminine energies and facilitates self-knowledge and realization.

No one doubts the benefit of exercise for depression. Yoga seems to be one of the best choices for stabilizing moods and increasing the overall sense of well-being.

3 Tips To Reduce Sugar Cravings

With all the candy at your disposal following Halloween, it’s important to keep from spiraling into a sugar addiction that is hard to break.  The candy will be around for awhile, so in the meantime here are 3 tips to keep you and your children afloat.

1.  Keep Lots of Fruit Around. Dates and Figs are ‘nature’s cookies”.  Roll them in raw   almond butter or in cocoa (raw powder) to give them a rich flavor.  Apple slices, pineapple, and mango’s are all quite appetizing.

2.  Eat Regularly. Keep your blood sugar stable by eating consistently throughout the   day which will keep you from feeling starved.  This leads to desperate grabs for anything convenient which usually translates to something sweet and fatty.

3.  Do Something. When the craving hits, fill those moments with distracting activities. Exercise reduces cravings.

Better to Cleanse Daily than Twice a Year

How often do you clean your house? I know some crazy people may only clean their house twice per year, but most of us clean daily. How often to you bathe your outer body? For the most part this happens daily or every other day.

Is it Healthy to be Vegetarian?

When someone says they’re vegetarian, we automatically think they must be healthy and fit. I have found more often than not, this is not true. Being a vegetarian just means they don’t eat meat. They can still eat dairy and processed foods. In fact, the average vegetarian may eat more dairy and junk foods than a healthy non-vegetarian. They can still eat all cooked foods in a day and not one raw salad or piece of fruit. Cereal for breakfast with milk, peanut butter sandwich and chips for lunch, pasta for dinner, and any kind of dessert they want.

They seem to justify their increase in dairy and junk foods by the fact that they are not eating the fat from animals. But which is more natural? Potato chips or fish? Vegetarians can be seriously malnourished because of their poor choices and lack of education. So many “vegetarian” frozen dinners exist that contain soy protein, often high in MSG and difficult to digest.

I don’t have to talk much about diets high in soy protein as the propaganda has already beat me to it. However, my perspective is not coming from the fear of isoflavenoids. It is the fact that processed soy is very difficult to digest and allergenic when not fermented.

How about Vegans? Usually a Vegan is much healthier because they are not eating dairy. They tend to be more educated on food combining and eating natural unprocessed foods. However, a Vegan can still be 100% cooked and not one salad or piece of fruit. However, finding a vegan that doesn’t eat raw fruits and veggies will be difficult. They can still be malnourished, however because of the lack of nutrients in the soil.

Moderation in all areas of life including diet is the best way to go. Occasional fish and eggs can be quite beneficial for most people, as is yogurt and natural cheese. These are natural foods that provide gentle sources of protein. The key is NON-PROCESSED for any diet. So if you’re going to eat meat, eat natural meat. Eat plain yogurt and natural cheeses, not the low fat ones. When the body can digest a food completely, little waste is left behind. That means a more pure, lean and energetic body.

Everyone will differ as far as the differences in how much protein and good fats one needs based on genetics and activity level. Certainly, a diet high in complex carbohydrates (85-90%) is key for weight loss, mental clarity and energy. You will want these carbohydrates to come from NATURAL and DIGESTIBLE sources. That leaves us with plants, legumes, and grains. However, watch the grains as many of these can load the digestive system. Raw fruits and vegetables are so easy to digest, high in complex carbohydrates and clean up after themselves with the inherent water and fiber.

My Stomach Hurts…

The digestive system is a simple system. The stomach basically chews stuff up into a bolus. The small intestine absorbs nutrients, and the large intestine absorbs water and handles wastes.

However, few can diagnose why their “stomachs” hurt. Even gastroenterologists use a garbage disposal term when they can’t figure out what the problem is. Many are therefore being diagnosed with IBS. The protocol is to take anti-inflammatories. But that’s not a cure, it’s a dangerous band aid. The body is giving you pain as a message that something is not right and a change must happen. When you ignore the message, the problem gets bigger and that’s why colon cancer is at the top of the list for most common cancers.

Inflammation is not meant to be masked. It’s a way for the body to express that the system is out of balance and needs you to change something. If your intestines are inflamed, maybe you are eating something to irritate it. It’s so simple, but doctors don’t have the interest or time to educate about lifestyle.

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a debilitating skin disease that affects self esteem and quality of life.  It is an autoimmune disease and has no known cause, according to the conventional medical system.  Psoriasis does have a genetic component, but like all other predispositions environment can greatly influence the expression of this disease.

The usual treatments for Psoriasis include steroid cremes and other immuno-suppressant therapies.  However, these are mostly ineffective and the patient begins to suffer from the side effects of the long term treatments without the benefits of a cure.
